Idea has been a champion of the Smart Dublin project since its inception. An initiative of the four Dublin local authorities, Smart Dublin engages with smart technology providers, researchers and citizens to solve challenges and improve city life.
When initially discussed with Idea, the objective was to establish and grow Dublin to become a smart city, and to present the city as aspiring to be ‘smart’. The concept had the commitment from the local authorities, a dedicated Smart City Manager, global tech leaders and leading startups based in Dublin. This concept needed to be brought to life.
Idea’s first action was to communicate that Dublin is not ‘aspiring to be’ a smart city but Dublin ‘is’ a smart city. As well as top-level input from Ciaran Flanagan on the Smart Dublin strategy and development, Idea developed the brand, worked with the Smart Dublin team on their marketing and communications strategy, and the rollout of this across the website, video, event branding, marketing materials, keynote presentation design and social media.
Smart Dublin has grown from a concept to a tangible initiative that is working with partners in the tech sphere on live projects to improve the quality of lives for people who work and live in Dublin. The success of the Smart Dublin initiative has been the catalyst for the Smart Docklands Project, a project that Idea is at the heart of. This positions the Docklands as the world’s most connected city in the world, and a testbed to deploy world-class and cutting-edge technology.
By November 2017, Dublin was shortlisted by an independent international panel of experts as one of the smartest cities in the World at the Smart City Expo World Congress.
A further development of our work on the Smart Dublin project is the development and launch of Smart Docklands as a smart city lab in 2018, and as part of this, Idea is currently developing a virtual reality model of the docklands which can be used for planning purposes.
Working with Idea we were able to transform the Smart Dublin concept into a slick brand which was subsequently translated into a responsive, engaging and visually appealing website, which sets out Dublin’s ambition to be a world leading Smart City Region.Jamie Cudden, Smart City Program Manager, Dublin City Council
