The UCD Festival is an annual event held on the UCD campus to showcase everything UCD has to offer, from science and innovation exhibits to talks and conversations on literature, sports and health and wellbeing. The festival attracts huge numbers each year and offers a fun day out for families, alumni, staff, students and anyone interested in attending the free event.
Idea worked with the UCD team to update the festival branding for 2020. We designed all the event collateral including the design and develop of the festival website.
The UCD Festival has been very successful over the past few years and the UCD team were looking for a brand refresh to give this year’s festival a vibrant new look and that would showcase the festival for the years to come.
The UCD Festival is a fun, vibrant, all-inclusive event and in order to reflect this, we created a bright colour palette complimented by fun and playful shapes to convey the excitement, joy, and energy this festival offers.
This new vibrant brand was applied to all the event collateral, including festival posters, emailers, social media, t-shirts, flags, banners, and the all-important website for this now virtual event.
With the challenge of the Covid 19 pandemic, it became clear that the festival would not be able to go ahead this year. After discussing the options with the UCD team, it was decided that the UCD Virtual Festival @Home 2020 would now take the place of the physical festival. This required a very different approach and a far more important role for the website, which now needed to be turned around within a week.
Working closely with the UCD team, Idea designed and developed a landing page initially to communicate the change of plan for this year’s festival and to capture interest. This was quickly followed up with the full festival website that served as the launch platform for all the virtual events on offer.
The 3 day UCD Festival @Home took place between Thursday 21st – Saturday 23rd May with Idea providing live website support throughout the festival.
This years UCD Festival has been a huge success with over 20,000 users visiting the website to take part in the UCD Virtual Festival @Home and all the events on offer.
