Vodafone Ireland commissioned the Gigabit Hub Report to better understand the impact of Ireland’s economic performance post-recession. Smart working – flexible or remote working from home or a digital hub – is having a positive effect on rural economic recovery and providing a real solution to the pressures on our cities. The research examines the economic and social value of smart working in six vibrant digital hubs in Carlow, Kilkenny, Skibbereen, Tralee, Dundalk and Drogheda.

Design Challenge

Ahead of the launch of the launch of the report on October 1st, 2019 Idea were commissioned to bring this report to life through a visually enhanced print and interactive online report as well as a summary version of the report in print.

The challenge lay in creating a report where the facts & figures were able to engage the reader, both in print and digital, and enable the reader to understand its content without it being overly technical. The key challenge, nevertheless was timing as the full report had to be printed and online as an interactive web enabled report.


Idea developed a series of iconography which could be easily understood in print as infographics as well as being easily animated for an engaging digital experience. We developed the design to be easily and quickly printed digitally while the online process utilised a unique publishing platform that enabled the quick turnaround of a very engaging animated report that had the look and feel of a functioning website.


All materials were ready for the launch event on October 1st 2019 at The Alex Hotel, Dublin with hosted by main speakers Jim Power, Vodafone Director of Enterprise Regina Moran, and panel speakers: Danny McCoy of IBEC, Adrienne Harrington of Ludgate, Denis Creighton of Fexco Group, Architect Dermot Bannon and Mike Beary of Amazon, with the printed and digital reports providing a fantastic visual aid.
